Nothing could have prepared me for last weekend’s Quick Quotes Private Reserve Weekend in Atlanta!
I wasn’t really sure what to expect… but from the moment we arrived on Friday until late Sunday afternoon the fun, giveaways, prizes, and creativity were non-stop. Patsy Gaut (QQ founder) and her daughters know how to throw a party! Ladies, you need to take them up on their invitation if they bring it to a city near you! You will come home exhausted but armed with new and innovative ideas, lots of wonderful Quick Quotes paper and products and maybe even the grand prize!
Friday and Saturday evening crops featured giveaways, a paper exchange, prizes, upbeat music, make and takes for charity and lots of chat and chocolate!
On Saturday evening we were greeted by the QQ paper dancing divas and were later inspired by Patsy’s sister, Penny, and her story of courage and determination following a diving accident when she was in her 20’s. Penny encouraged us to focus on what we wanted and not on the negative and to create a vision for our lives. This is a company of women for women who truly care and give back to their community!
Michelle Granger taught classes both days, but these were more relaxed than QQ's convention classes when there's really no time to do much “prep†work, i.e. the signature “punch and ink.†Projects included a clock on canvas layout, a flower technique page, a trifold/traditional scrapbook page and an innovative page technique that features a flap on the outside of the album page protector for journaling, pictures etc.
Although there were time constraints and some got a bit frustrated at their inability to complete everything during each class, this was, after all, supposed to be fun and the instructions for each project are detailed and easy to follow making it easy to complete these later. For me at least, creating the entire flower technique project in under two hours was a major milestone in my crafting "career" as those who have tried to show me anything involving folding, sewing or wrapping will attest!
On Sunday we completed the base pages for a classic "all about me" 20-page scrapbook using Quick Quotes' khaki paper. Everyone will be adding their individual touch and photos to this at home. It did require a lot of prep work and I’ll bring “baggies†next time to keep track of all the pieces we had to punch out prior to class. The day ended with yet another round of giveaways including one lucky gal who won tuition to a 2011 Private Reserve of her choice!
Our little group from Southern Scrapbooks in North Carolina. Aren’t the aprons Lou Ann made us adorable?
Our group had a wonderful time at this ultimate "girlfriend getaway" event. We're at various levels in our creative process and quite diversified in our crafting interests but no one came away disappointed. Quick Quotes hopes to bring this event back to Atlanta in 2011 and everyone's already set to “save the date.â€Â
