Papercrafting Halloween: Countdown Calendar
Are you ready for some more Halloween papercrafting goodness?
That got my papercrafting wheels turning and I decided I wanted to make one as well.
Since Oct. 1st is right around the corner, I thought I’d share my creation with you!
I created a countdown calendar for a Disney trip a while back and I decided to revamp the basics to create this new countdown calendar.
I’m all for re-using ideas and supplies!
To begin, grab a simple 5×7 frame and a clothespin.
To give my clothespin a bit of flair I added some washi tape to the edge.
I went with black and white because I knew it would go with any countdown I might create in the future.
To attach the clothes pin I used some Glossy Accents.
I only applied the adhesive to the portion of the clothespin that would be attached to the frame, leaving the upper part (the part that would stand above the frame edge), un-sticky (that’s a word, right?).
Glossy Accents is super strong and I have to say that the clothespin is still completely stuck (a full year later!).
To create the base for this countdown I grabbed a stack of 4×6 grid cards.
They were a little too long so I trimmed an inch off the bottom and re-rounded the newly trimmed corners.
Now it’s time to start papercrafting!
I gathered a bunch of black and orange scraps, some Halloween-themed and some not.
I trimmed the papers to 2.5 x 5.
I then cut strips of 1 x 3.25 to use as accent pieces.
I tried to cut an even number of black papers and orange papers.
For papercrafting projects like this I prefer to find a layout pattern and stick to it.
In this case I placed a wide strip of paper vertically and a small accent strip horizontally.
I alternated the side of the card on which I put the large strips of paper so that the stack of cards didn’t get too thick on one side.
Now for the numbers.
I chose to cut the numbers with my Cricut, but you could certainly stamp them or use letter stickers.
I have a new addiction to Square1 products.
It’s like vinyl, but actually made of fabric.
I’m especially in love with the glitter, and knew it would be perfect for the title.
Because it is re-positionable, I can just peel it off later when I want to re-purpose this countdown set-up for something else.
And, here’s the title for my countdown.
All that glitter just makes me smile!
Take a gander at the full collection of cards for my countdown.
Here’s a note to remember: my original countdown had less than 10 cards.
This one has 30 cards, which is too big to fit into the small clothespin.
So, I’m only going to clip on 10 cards at a time.
But, if I had a larger clothespin, it would totally work.
So when putting together your initial countdown, you might want to keep the number of cards in mind.
Here it is again just so you don’t have to scroll back up.
I’m so excited to pull this baby out on Oct. 1st and start counting down!
