Welcome back to Mist Techniques Week! Today we are covering the easiest, most fool-proof misting techniques out there: Using mist to customize & color your naked stuff!
1. Resist Products
First, what is a ‘resist’ pattern? What that means is that the paper or product has a pattern printed on it with a clear, gloss. When you spray-on the color, the glossy parts of the paper “resist” the color while the uncoated parts of the paper absorb the color. There are a variety of ‘resist’ papers, banners, chipboards, etc in the marketplace. You just have to be on the lookout for them!
It’s hard to envision without an example …. Check out these step-out photos as Corrie demonstrates the effect using a piece of Heidi Swapp’s Color Magic paper, which is coated with the glossy ‘resist’ in a trendy, chevron pattern ….
See? The mist just ‘beads up’ on the shiny or coated parts of the paper.
Corrie actually combined 2 different colors of mist on one tag ….
So nifty …. Just think about how customizable these ‘resist’ products become with just a few different colors of mist to choose from!
Did you ever see the fabulous video that Heidi swapp created earlier this year in conjunction with the introduction of her Color Magic papers? It’s SO COOL. I couldn’t ‘resist’ showing you! … (did you like my pun, LOL?) Check out her 2-minute video ….
Is that cool or what?! Yes, I must admit, the first time I saw this I watched it twice and then forced my husband to watch!
Of course Heidi’s Color Magic papers are my personal favorite (I may or may not be biased!) …. There are several brands of products with pre-printed “resist” patterns in them ….
And i know that Pink Paislee’s new Artisan Collection (shipping early Sept) has some really sweet chipboard shapes with resist patterns too!
2. DIY Resist
If you don’t happen to have any resist products lying around or you just can’t wait, another option is to create your own using a stamp, versamark and your favorite clear embossing powder! Checkout this photo tutorial as Corrie takes you through the process ….
So the options become endless! And your stamp stash finds new life 🙂
3. Burlap, canvas, white foam thickers, neutral flowers, seam binding and more …
Look at how this ‘naked’ canvas flower from Canvas Corp transformed with Angie‘s Tattered Angels mists ….
Angie’s splatter canvas tag & flower are so retro 1980’s! Love how this mini project turned out!
All of a sudden, nothing white or off-white in your craft studio is safe!
With a bottle of mist in your hands, everything becomes customizable! White foam thickers, Studio Calico Mistable Shapes …. white or beige ribbon, seam binding, khaki burlap strips ….. and have you seen the Petaloo Color Me Crazy products? Just think of the possibilities!!
