Hi PCC friends! Sophie here to talk to you about my love for kits! And the scrapbook ideas they can inspire!
I have always loved kits, because they take away a lot of the stress form me!! I am not very good at combining colors, so all the thinking has been done for me when I buy a kit! I know that everything will fit together perfectly and I do not have to worry about that aspect of my layouts: it leaves me more time and energy to think about cool and new designs!
I have been lucky enough to be part of 3 awesome kit club DTs. Right now I am designing for a french kit club : La Malle à Scrap.
When I get my kits the first thing I do is get everything out and try to choose which sides of the papers I like most, which items really catch my eye and make my heart beat:)
I end up with a bunch of items I know I will love and I usually use these for my first layout! Here is the kit I used for my projects. It’s called Gate Departure 12.
layout n°1: “ENJOY LIFE”:
Now, there are different approaches to using a kit; I can look at the papers and embellies and try to think of how to use these most creatively. That is what I did (well , I believe!!) with the stickers in this kit. There was some thread in the kit and I combined both thread and round stickers to create a garland that would be the “cool” spot of my layout.
I was also attracted to the amazing Basic Grey paper from the Clippings collection: I loved the yellow which is one of my fav color and I used it by matting it on the yellow cardstock in the kit.
layout n°2: “Oh ! le beau moment “(Oh what a beautiful moment!)
Sometimes the colors in the kit really don’t fit my usual color combos;: it was the case with this kit and its neutral and masculine tones: in that case I use white cardstock or kraft cardstock as a base and use small bits of the different patterned papers: this is when my Cameo comes in handy! here I used it to cut a grid and all I had to do was to combine small bits of papers together and find a photo that would fit the color combo. I did not like the alpha stickers in the kit: the color was too pale for me: but no worries: I used my Cameo to cut my big title in the gorgeous denim paper! and I love the end result!
layout n°3: “cache -cache “(hide and seek) :
I followed the same creative process for this layout. I searched for a photo that would fit the colors of the patterned papers and played with the shape of the tree; I used my sewing machine to create a quilted effect. The background paper , from the kit, helped me to create the vertical design, with its dotted lines.
Thank you, Sophie for sharing your approach and your fab layouts! Your projects inspire such great scrapbook ideas!
