What Is Going On With Making Memories?
That is the header of an email that I (and many of you) received from the President of Making Memories earlier today.
My stomach dropped when I read the headline. Uh oh, I thought…. I’d read some things online that made me worry about what the email would contain!
But yay!! Instead, the email contained assurances that Making Memories will continue to be a beloved part of our paper crafting landscape for years to come 🙂
Here is the email, in it’s entirety…
Recently, an “anonymous” blogger posted the message that they “know as a fact that Making Memories is going out of business”. As President and CEO of Making Memories, my response is that I know as a fact that the blogger in question is either factually misinformed or worse, maliciously spreading a lie.
Making Memories will be part of the changing landscape of paper-crafting, scrapbooking and crafting for many years to come. There is no question that the market we all love has changed a lot – and will continue to do so at an even accelerated rate.
Many companies and brands will disappear, but Making Memories is in the final stages of forging a partnership that will ensure our success as a business for many years to come.
It is true that MM is working and taking risks in new areas of development, such as tools, jewelry, kid’s craft and recognition. Our Slice Elite is a wonderful tool – much improved from the original version and more exciting Slice developments are on the way.
Our Vintage Groove jewelry program, by Jill Schwartz, is one of the top designer programs in the market. We are excited to be introducing Vintage Groove III and mixed-media in early 2012 – our best jewelry line yet. We are also launching a new kid’s paper-craft line “Crafting with Fancy Nancy” soon.
There are certainly things we can do better. But please don’t fault us for taking risks and trying to carve out new niches where we have lost historic product strong-holds to Mass knock-offs.
If consumers “rumor” all good designers and wholesalers out of business, then the market will be only left with “Kirkland” brand crafting products and with no inspiration.
Thank you for believing in us!!
Finally, we are expanding our webstore and new products are available by clicking: Making Memories ONLINE

I have to admit that I’d read those rumors myself …. and had verbally shared them with a friend! I’m so glad they aren’t true! As your official cheerleader for the paper crafting industry, I say “Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah!” and do an awkward “hurkey” for all of us 🙂
Had you heard or read the rumors? Are you as relieved as I am??
PS: If I really tried to do a hurkey, I wouldn’t be able to move tomorrow. Or the next day. Or probably until next week…. Just sayin’. (Original image source)
