Papercrafting Moms – Calling All Papercrafting Moms!
I need your help…
(If you’d rather just skip to sharing your Mother’s Day Papercrafting Wish List, scroll on down to that section below – it’s o.k., really…no, really, it is…)
As we placed the annual flower order for my mother-in-law, Carol, today I thought to myself, “Isn’t there something else we could get her?”
I enjoy spending time picking out just the right gift for people, something that enables them to partake in their hobbies or interests, or that offers an experience.
Flowers, again, just seemed like the easy way out.
Carol doesn’t have any obvious interests other than loving spending time with family, seeing pictures of the grandkids and great-grandkids, tending to her rose bushes and watching her favorite shows (don’t ever try to drag her out to dinner when Dancing With the Stars is on – you’ll have NO luck!).
Pictures in a frame or book? We got her a digital frame and that’s how she likes to view pictures now.
Write and send a long letter to catch her up? She stays in touch through email on the tablet we got her for her birthday last year, and we talk on the phone.
Gardening implements? It gets quite hot where she lives, and she really shouldn’t be out in the hot sun, so we’d hesitate to get her anything that might encourage activity that could be dangerous for her.
So, that leaves Dancing With the Stars. And, unless we can get her a front-row seat to a taping (ok, anyone got any connections? ;)), I’m not sure how we would gift her anything related to her favorite show. Ideas?
She does like to watch movies (my sis- and brother-in-law got her a Netflix subscription which she really likes), and she enjoys perusing Southern Living (we got her a subscription for her birthday years ago and have renewed it every year after learning she really enjoys it).
And, while she’s never been into papercrafting (despite my best efforts at “sharing” my love for it!) she used to enjoy crocheting and cross-stitch. But, I haven’t seen her pick up a hook or needle and thread in years. When I ask her about those crafts, she says she hasn’t done them in years and doesn’t think she can anymore.
That makes me sad. I know she enjoyed these activities.
So, it was flowers … again.
Now, we know she loves getting flowers – she always tells us how much she loves the bouquets that arrive from us and from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. But I sure wish she had a hobby or obvious interest that hasn’t already been addressed so we could pick out something different for Mother’s Day.
What do you think? Any recommendations?
That brings me to the second purpose behind this post…
