Yesterday, I got a wild hair & decided to find out exactly how many facebook users per state had indicated scrapbooking, card making or stamping as an interest. (Original post here.)
It was a fun list …. but without any context, the raw numbers didn't tell us much…. And believe me, while a lot of you enjoyed looking at the numbers, an awful lot of you wanted MORE info … and you let us know about it!!
So, at your request, we took it a step further to determine what PERCENTAGE of facebookers in each state have indicated scrapbooking, card making or stamping as an interest.
I have to say, I was a little disappointed that the numbers weren't more dramatic…. I thought for sure we'd have some huge differences! But we really didn't. Overall, in every state, less than 1% of the facebookers had "checked" off scrapbooking, stamping or card making as a hobby. So while the overall numbers were impressive with California having a whopping 46,000+ paper crafting facebookers, the percentages weren't so big.
Having said that …. We aren't going to skip this opportunity to make silly comments about the states that made the Top 5 and the Bottom 5 Top 6 and Bottom 6. After all, we ARE PaperCrafter's Corner, aren't we? We try not to miss any opportunities for fun
So without further ado…
6 States with the Lowest Percentage of Paper Crafting Facebookers
Wow, I guess the weather is so beautiful in Hawaii & California that you guys would rather be outside that indoors paper crafting! And you guys in NY, DC and NJ have too much "hip" entertainment keeping you busy, right?? But … hey Massachusetts, what's your excuse??
6 States with the Highest Percentage of Paper Crafting Facebookers
And while we ALL thought Utah would be #1 in this category, there were "upset" by North Dakota at an almost "whopping" 1%! Way to go North Dakota! However, it could be said that perhaps, um, well, what else is there to DO is ND, SD, IA, MN and ID?!? (Eek! Let the hate emails begin! Yall know I'm kidding you, right?) And of course, as expected, Utah is the birthplace of scrapbooking and has a proud spot on the Top 6 list
All joking aside, I do have one question: WHY are the percentages so very low? According to an April 2010 press release from the Craft & Hobby Association, "35% of the 113 million US households scrapbook, rubber stamp, or make cards…" If that were true, the numbers should be FAR different!
Hmmm…. Maybe it means that paper crafters have better things to do than to waste time on Facebook! Or does it mean that you guys are "closet" paper crafters and don't want all of your FB "friends" to know about your little addiction so you didn't check those boxes when you signed up?? Tee hee! What do you think??

Thank you for doing this…makes a much bigger impression.
Personally, I don’t deal with Facebook much, and I don’t tweet either. But I love scrapping and making cards
That’s very interesting information. And I have no explanation as to the low percentages, except maybe like you said, most paper crafter’s just simply aren’t on Facebook. Still, I would have thought the percentages to be higher, very interesting! Thanks for doing all the trench work to get the numbers!
Thanks, intersting… maybe weather and Football is a Big factor -
I did a random survey a few months ago from customers and they said they are Winter scrappers , all I can say is bring on the cold!
I am amazed at how many scrapbookers I run into that do not own a computer! I am 63 and there are a ton of senior citizens who do not have a computer and my baby boomer generation is huge in numbers…so there are a few of the percentage points
HAHA SWEET!! My state won! I live in ND and there is nothing to do. My weekends are consumed with scrapbooking, knitting, crafting and hanging out with friends. When it is cold I leave my house for work and the craft store (and dance).
I don’t facebook or tweet – I think they are both a waste of time. And I don’t spend all day with a cell phone hanging from my ear. There are way more interesting things to do – like papercrafting.
