Greetings from Scrapbook Expo Atlanta 2009!
Boy, are my feet tired! I had so much fun today – I can only imagine what it must be like to attend a CHA show!
As a first-time Expo attendee, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d heard thrilling & scary stories about people dropping $600 at Expo in the past. Eek! What in the world would inspire someone to spend that much all at once? I mean, sure, I love scrapbook stuff as much as anyone else, but that’s a lot!
So, with scraped-together cash shoved deep into my pocket, I entered the exhibit hall. At first, it was overwhelming. Everything seemed fantastic, and I was worried about blowing my budget. However, as I wandered the hall longer, I realized that there really wasn’t anything I couldn’t live without.
Sure, sure, I bought some really cute PJ’s from Scrapbook Girl (shout out!) and some fun $1 items here & there. But nothing really rocked my scrappy world. I’d been half hoping, half fearing that I’d find something as revolutionary as the Cricut had been to me when I first discovered it. But, luckily or thankfully, that was not the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I had a fantastic time. Anytime you get a bunch of scrapbookers together, it’s gonna’ be fun. In fact, my favorite part was sitting around a table, eating my shared ½ ham & cheese sandwich and chatting with some fellow scrappers. What could be better?
But enough about my experiences. You want to know what was there!
My favorite booth was the Eyelet Outlet booth. They had their newer eyelets & brads on display for $2-$3/ea – you wouldn’t believe the variety & selection! They also had a “clearance†bin with other eyelets & brads for only $1/ea. I had great fun pawing through the bin & comparing “finds†with other scrappers. Among other things, I got some great blue & gray shark brads that will look great with a photo of my son wearing his blue & gray shark bathing suit J
Heidi Swapp also had a good collection of things. Lots of $1 items (like ribbons & ghost letters) mixed in with nicer camera bags, totes, acrylic stamps, etc. The $29.99 grab bag, was cool — a nice chocolate brown & pink-striped, zipper tote with tons of Heidi Swapp items stuffed inside. It was supposed to be a surprise, but it didn’t take long for everyone to compare and see that inside was an alterable clock (cool!), a full set of “month†clear stamps, some letter grungeboard, a camera bag, and a few smaller items. Definitely worth the $29.99 if you need a tote or camera bag, or if you’d been planning a clock project. Here's a pic of the stuffed bag…
Archivers, surprisingly, wasn't selling anything! I found it strange that they had rented an entire booth space just to talk about upcoming promotions, etc. They were giving out "Expo Only" coupons for $5 off your purchase of $25 or more and 10 free sheets of 12 x 12 cardstock.
- Scrapmart had a great selection of thickers for 5 for $10 and cardstock, including packages of 60 sheets of American Crafts cardstock for $12.99 and packages of the new "coredinations" cardstock for $10.
- I was surprised by the number of booths selling entire laser cut pages & pre-done scrapbook pages. Yes, some of them were really cool….but I thought we were scrapbookers! Not premade page buyers! (Although, there was this one Spiderman layout that I can't get out of my mind…. I may have to break down & buy it….)
- Scrapbook Corner (and Cricut Dan!) had some brand new Cricut cartridges that haven't hit the stores yet, including A Child's Year, which was particularly popular today.
And really, that's about it! 45 booths, lots of fun, but nothing spectacular. If you were there, I hope I had a chance to meet you. And if you weren't able to come, it's definitely not worth losing sleep over 🙂
I do have a class scheduled for tomorrow, so I’ll let you know what fun stuff I learn there 🙂
