CHA 2012-W Sneak: Creative Imaginations {Awkward Family Photos}

Have you heard of “Awkward Family Photos?” It’s a website that posts some of the strangest and most “awkward” photos you’ve ever seen. Many of the photos are from the 1970′s or 1980′s, feature holidays and/or matchy-matchy outfits, and oh-so special occasions.

The photos are hilarious … and the captions & comments even funnier. If you’ve never checked-out the AFP site, it’s a must-see. (My husband and I were *this close* to giving everyone in our family a copy of the Awkward Family Photos coffee table book for Christmas last year, but somehow we never got around to it.)

Here are a few examples from the AFP site …

Caption: "This family preferred a game called, 'There's Waldo'."

Title "Mommy-The-Pooh"; Caption "This father was so relieved when he found out he was gonna be Eeyore."

Caption: "You will learn to love Christmas"

Title: "Full Monty Christmas"; Caption: "Dad was the first to unwrap his gift"

Okay, now that I just lost an hour of my day surfing the AFP site & laughing out loud all by myself …. Why are we talking about the Awkward Family Photos site?

Creative Imaginations has paired up with Awkward Family Photos to create a new AFP-themed scrapbooking line. Isn’t that genius? While the line itself is pretty tame, I’m already rubbing my hands together with gleeful anticipation as I can’t wait to see the awesomely awkward layouts people end up creating with it! A dream come true for this immature, silly scrapper :)

Here’s a look at the line …

Yes, I’m thinking we’ll find a way to have some fun with this one :) What do you think?

Scrap Tales: Scrapbooking = Elf Prep!

She wiped the sweat from her brow and stretched her lower back. Wow, this was going to be tougher than she’d imagined. Tucked into the dark, dank storage room in the basement of her house (in order to keep the Christmas surprise hidden) she was attempting to work some of Santa’s magic on the pile of MDF, screws, nails and complicated directions that had arrived via UPS earlier that afternoon.

“Alright, you can DO this!”

Cursing under her breath and feeling overwhelmed at the magnitude of the task, she paused to think.  Yes:  Years of sneaking JetMax scrapbook storage cubes (purchased with 30% off coupons from Michaels) into her scrapbook room and assembling them on-the-sly (so that hubby wouldn’t notice) had prepared her for this. Yes, she was up for the challenge!!

23 Multi-phase steps? Seriously?

Feeling inspired, she dragged her Ott-lite from her nearby scrap room into the storage room. Ah-hah! Darkness and shadows were vanquished! Gotta love that eye-saving “daylight” :)

On a roll, she cut a piece of baker’s twine from her stash (using her cutter bee scissors) and used it to pull her hair into an untidy ponytail. She was taking no prisoners. This Walmart desk-in-a-box WOULD become her next masterpiece.

Sure, these directions were impossible. 23 multi-phase steps — with virtually no words!  But her practice with sketch challenges had prepared her well. Stepping back, she could *see* the big picture.

Yes, Come Christmas morning, this $88.88 desk-in-a-box (with a few desk accessories artfully arranged in a visual triangle) would be a great gift for a 6 year-old ….. and a scene worth scrapbooking!!

Have you been there? What crazy tasks has your hobby unwittingly prepared YOU for?? Ha! Happy Holidays!

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Teresa Collins

Teresa Collins

Teresa Collins burst onto the scrapbook scene in 2002 and has quickly become one of the top names in the industry. With her trademark long, blond hair and her infusion of elegance into paper crafting products and styles, she is one of the most recognized names in the industry. Readers of her blog are quickly drawn into the details of her life as a mother of 7 who occasionally burns the candle at both ends in order to meet her personal & professional obligations.

How exactly did Teresa get her start in 2002?  It sounds like the ultimate combination of talent meets good timing: (1) Her daughter showed some of Teresa’s layouts to the advertising manager of Ivy Cottage Magazine (which later become Scrapbook Trends magazine.) Then (2) she ran into Lance Anderson of Rusty Pickle at her local LSS and ended up giving him advice on his designs. Before she knew it, Teresa was designing products for Rusty Pickle and creating a series of idea books for the magazine.

Of course, the industry has changed greatly in recent years and Teresa is now both the name and the brand of her own line of fabulous paper crafting supplies. Here are a few of her most popular recent lines, which I’m sure most of you will recognize….
