13 Reasons to Participate in Paper Crafting Challenges

This week we’re talking about CHALLENGES. If you spend any time on paper crafting blogs or online forums, then you’re hearing about challenges. Have you decided to join-in the fun yet?

The PCC Creative Squad loves challenges …. so much so that they shared their favorite reasons to do challenges!

13 reasons why YOU should participate in challenges!

  1. Challenges are a great way to keep your creative juices flowing.
  2. Challenges force you to keep up-to-date with what’s CURRENT and on-trend!
  3. Sketch challenges take the design pressure out of the process so you can focus on the fun details.
  4. Challenges give you a starting point when you need help getting your mojo going!
  5. Challenges eliminate at least 1 part of the design process for you, so you can get started faster.
  6. Checking out the other participants’ interpretations of a challenge exposes you to many different kinds of creative ideas and processes!
  7. Challenges can force you out of your comfort zone … so that you continue to evolve & explore new ideas.
  8. By participating regularly with a certain challenge blog, you will get to know the other challenge participants and make some online friends.
  9. Challenge participation can drive traffic to your blog — if that’s something you’re looking for :)
  10. Regular participation with your favorite manufacturer’s challenges may help you catch their eye — or lead to a cool guest designer opportunity!
  11. You could win some cool prizes!
  12. Challenges are a great way to use-up your STASH!!
  13. Challenges are FUN!

A FUN Challenge Becomes FABULOUS!

PCC Creative Squad member Christine Ousley “really, really loves challenges!” So I asked her to pick a challenge from ScrapChallenge.com to play along with this week. There are lots of challenges in the list. How did she pick which one to try?

When picking the challenge for my project I looked for one that would inspire me to do something new or use some supplies that I loved but hadn’t used up yet.

So what did she pick?

Christine picked the August challenge from ScrapItGirl, called “All About Numbers.” Here are ScrapItGirl’s challenge instructions:

I love Numbers and we see them everywhere.  Now is your chance to use your numbers.  I am sure you have some hidden in your stash.  Numbers are very popular on scrapbooking embellishments and are found on paper, brads, washi tape, trims, stamps, etc…   Get creative or just simply use up some number stickers.

Are you ready to see what this challenge inspired her to create? Brace yourself …. it’s FABULOUS!!

What was Christine’s process for creating such an awesome layout in response to the challenge?

I thought this challenge sounded like fun! It’s wasn’t a hard challenge but gave me a chance to use some products in my stash that I have been saving for just the right layout.

My first thought was my pictures, so I found some of my son who just turned one.  That was a great opportunity to use numbers.  I also had the awesome Boys Only collection from Doodlebug, which had awesome brightly colored papers with numbers on them.

The last element that I knew I wanted to incorporate into my layout was a digital die cut number border by Kerri Bradford. When I started putting these papers and embellishments together I was very happy with the end result.

And a few close-ups …. just b/c I love close-ups … :)

Pretty great, right?
